What this SOP covers
Composio is a connection layer that sits between Claude and the apps you actually work in, Gmail, Notion, Slack, HubSpot, and over a thousand more. Instead of adding each app to Claude one at a time, you connect Composio once, and Claude can discover and authorize apps as it needs them.
Who this is for
Founders who want Claude to take action in their tools, not just talk about them.
What you need
A Composio account, a Claude account with Connectors access, and login access to the app you want to connect.
This SOP assumes you already have your Business DNA Project set up in Claude. Composio connects at the account level, so once it is added it is available across every project, including your Business DNA Project.
Create a Composio account
Composio needs its own account before it can talk to Claude. This takes under a minute.
- Go to the Composio homepage and click Sign up or Get started for free.
- Create your account with your work email, or continue with Google.
- Land on your Composio dashboard once verified.
Browse the toolkits directory
Toolkits are Composio's list of every app it can connect Claude to. Before you authorize anything, take a minute to see what is available.
- From your dashboard, go to the toolkits page.
- Use the search bar to look for the specific app you want, for example Gmail, Notion, or HubSpot.
- Note that Composio supports over 1000 apps, so most tools founders use day to day are already covered.
Connect an app via OAuth
Pick the first app you want Claude to have access to and authorize it. You can always come back and connect more apps later.
- Click into the app's toolkit page from the directory.
- Click Connect.
- You will be redirected to that app's own login screen to sign in and grant access. This is a standard OAuth screen, the same kind you see connecting any app to any other app.
- Once authorized, the app shows as connected inside your Composio dashboard.
You do not need to connect every app you might ever want. Connect one to test the flow, then add more from inside Claude once the connector is live.
Add Composio to Claude as a custom connector
This is the step that gives Claude access to everything you just connected in Composio.
- Open Claude and go to Settings → Connectors.
- Click Add custom connector.
- Paste in the Composio MCP link below as the server URL.
- Leave the authentication headers section blank. Composio handles authorization through OAuth in the next step, you do not need to enter any keys manually.
- Click Connect.
Authorize and confirm
A browser window opens automatically after you click Connect.
- If you are not already logged into Composio in that browser, sign in or sign up.
- Authorize Claude to connect through Composio.
- The window closes and you land back in Claude, where the connector now shows as active.
From here, Claude can see every app you authorized in Step 3. Ask Claude to do something in one of those apps and it will use the Composio connection to act on your behalf, no copying and pasting between tabs.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Fix |
|---|---|
| Connector shows as pending and never activates | Close the authorization browser tab and click Connect again from Claude. Make sure pop ups are not blocked. |
| Claude cannot find tools for an app you connected | Refresh the connector, or clear the connector cache and reconnect from Claude's Connectors panel. |
| An app you authorized stops working after a while | Go back into Composio, open that app's toolkit page, and reauthorize the OAuth connection. Tokens can expire depending on the app. |
| Not sure if an app is already connected | Check your Composio dashboard under Connected accounts before authorizing it again. |
