Start here, Google Flow
Your hook gets about a second. If the first frame does not stop someone mid scroll, the rest of your reel never gets watched. That is the whole game.
These ten effects are made to stop the thumb, and every one of them comes from a single photo and one prompt inside Google Flow. You never open an editor or film a thing. You drop the clip on the front of your reel and it buys you the first three seconds.
How to run any of these
- Open Google Flow and start a new project.
- For most effects, drop your photo in as the start frame. For the two transition effects (02 and 08), use the first and last frame setting and add both images.
- Paste the prompt. Swap anything in [brackets] for your own detail.
- Set the aspect ratio to 9:16 and the length noted under each prompt.
- Generate, then run it once or twice more and keep the cleanest take.
Flow runs on a paid Google AI plan and the clips are short. The effects are strong but not flawless, so faces and hands sometimes warp on the trickier ones. Run a couple of versions and post the clean one.
Step into the photo
A still photo wakes up and the camera walks you straight into it.
Begin on the still photograph, completely frozen. The camera slowly pushes forward into the image. As it moves closer the frozen scene comes to life, light begins to shift, fabric and hair move softly, the background fills with gentle natural motion, and the subject takes a breath and turns slightly toward the lens. The frame stays steady and controlled, a smooth cinematic dolly in. Warm natural light, shallow depth of field, photoreal. Audio: soft ambient room tone rising as the scene wakes. 6 seconds.
Pick a start photo with depth behind you. The push in reads stronger.
Statue to real
You start as a marble statue, then crack open into the real you.
The subject begins as a pale marble statue, perfectly still, fine veins running through the polished stone. A hairline crack appears and spreads across the surface, then the stone shell breaks away in soft fragments and dissolves, revealing the living person underneath. They draw a slow breath, colour returns to the skin, and they turn gently toward the camera. Slow, reverent reveal, locked off camera, dramatic side lighting on a dark background. Audio: low stone cracking, a soft rising swell as the person comes alive. 7 seconds.
Make the statue frame first by asking any image tool to turn your photo into a white marble statue, then feed both frames in.
Dissolve into petals
You come apart into a swirl of petals and blow away.
The subject stands still, then slowly begins to dissolve from the outer edges inward, the body breaking apart into hundreds of soft flower petals. A gentle wind lifts the petals and carries them swirling upward and across the frame until the figure has completely scattered into the air. Dreamlike and graceful, slow motion, soft diffused light, shallow depth of field. Audio: a soft breeze and a quiet musical swell. 6 seconds.
A dark or plain background makes the petals pop.
The boxed figurine
You show up as a collectible toy, boxed on a shelf.
Reveal the subject as a collectible action figure sealed inside a clear plastic blister pack mounted on printed cardboard backing. The backing shows a bold name label at the top and a row of small accessory icons down one side. The pack sits on a retail shelf under bright store lighting. A hand reaches in, lifts the box, and slowly turns it to show the figure at a slight angle, light glinting off the plastic. Hyperreal toy packaging, product photography style. Name the label and accessory icons in the prompt to make an on-brand version of you.
Earth zoom out
Start on your face, end up somewhere above the planet.
Start in a tight shot on the subject standing outdoors. The camera pulls back and rises at the same time, lifting away from the street, climbing past rooftops and towers, up through a layer of clouds, and continuing out beyond the atmosphere until the entire city shrinks to a tiny glowing point on the curve of the Earth against the black of space. One continuous, accelerating zoom out, epic and cinematic. Audio: a rising cinematic whoosh building to a quiet, vast hush. 8 seconds.
A rooftop or open-sky start frame gives the climb room to breathe.
Liquid pour reveal
Liquid metal pours in and sets into your logo or your face.
On a matte black background, a stream of glossy liquid metal pours down into the centre of the frame from above. The liquid pools, swirls, then rapidly rises and reshapes itself into [your logo / the subject], settling into a smooth, solid, chrome-like form. The surface catches a slow sweep of studio light, then holds, polished and still. Dramatic, premium, satisfying slow motion, macro detail. Audio: a smooth metallic pour and a soft resonant chime as it sets. 5 seconds.
Swap liquid metal for gold, water, or ink to match your brand colour.
Old photo comes alive
A still portrait blinks and then looks right at you.
Hold on the still portrait. Slowly it comes to life. The subject blinks, draws a soft breath, and the eyes shift to meet the camera directly. A few strands of hair and the edge of the clothing drift with a faint breeze. Everything else in the frame stays perfectly still, so the movement feels quiet and uncanny. Subtle, photoreal, locked off camera, natural light. Audio: faint room tone and a single soft breath. 5 seconds.
Best on a clean head-and-shoulders shot. Keep the movement small so the face stays stable.
The outfit snap
Snap your fingers and the whole look and the room change.
A seamless snap transition between two looks. The subject raises a hand and snaps, and on the exact beat of the snap the outfit, hair, and entire background change instantly from the first frame to the second. A quick flash of light hides the cut. Fast, clean, energetic, the motion carries straight through the change. Audio: a sharp finger snap landing exactly on the transition. 4 seconds.
Keep your body position similar in both frames so the snap lands clean.
Glass shatter reveal
The shot sits behind glass that cracks and drops away to your message.
The scene sits behind a pane of clear glass. A single crack appears in the centre, spiders outward, and then the whole pane shatters and falls away in slow motion, the shards catching the light as they tumble out of frame, revealing [the next scene / your headline text] sitting sharp and clear behind it. Cinematic, dramatic, slow motion, crisp reflections. Audio: a glass crack, then a slow cascade of falling shards. 5 seconds.
Put your hook headline on the frame behind the glass so the reveal lands on your message.
Zoom into the eye
Push through your pupil and come out somewhere else entirely.
Begin on an extreme close-up of the subject's eye. The camera pushes in slowly and continuously toward the pupil, until it passes through the darkness of the pupil and emerges on the other side into [a completely new dreamlike world]. One unbroken, seamless zoom from the real eye into the imagined scene. Cinematic, hypnotic, rich colour. Audio: a deep rising tone that opens into the ambience of the new world. 8 seconds.
A sharp, well-lit eye close-up gives the cleanest tunnel-through moment.
Matcha spill freeze
A cup explodes into a frozen splash of iced matcha, suspended mid air.
Use the uploaded portrait as the identity reference. Create a photorealistic image of the same person wearing the same outfit, recreating a dramatic matcha spill pose. One arm is raised high holding a clear plastic cup tilted downward, a thick green iced matcha exploding from the cup and remaining completely suspended in mid air as if time has stopped, the liquid forming an elegant frozen splash sculpture with droplets floating around it.
